CORNING, CA – For three weeks the California Chapter of ACTRA held National Finals Qualifiers all over the state.
Some might say they saved the best for last, as the Nor-Cal Qualifier was held Sept. 28-30. Weather was great, cattle great, it was run great, with great awards and great supporting staff. Great is the only word to describe the Qualifier at Rolling Hills Equestrian Center.
Steve Simons, S Bar J Cattle Co., brought the cattle and worked to keep the herds as even as possible – great job Steve. It was Carrie Hayes who handled the computer and entered the members. Vikki Sweeney handled the entries and payouts. Brenda Robbins handled the timing and announcing duties, great job ladies. Billy Butler made his way to Corning to handle the flagging duties, also a great job.
The awards featured Skyline Silversmiths. Six Yeti coolers were awarded to the high money headers and heelers on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. With 691 teams entered, the total payout in cash and awards reached $69,142. Rolling Hills’ Terry Skevington kept everything else running very smoothly.
The three California ACTRA ropings had a total of 2,985 teams and paid out a total of $236,000 in cash and $196,000 in awards, for a grand total of $432,000 in cash and awards
