The ACTRA Family would like to extend sympathy wishes and condolences to the Jones family.

Frederick Louis Jones, 63, of Selah, Washington, passed away on July 20, 2019 from an accident while doing what he loved – team roping. He was the oldest son of 7 children born to Roberta and Fred Jones of East Valley. Fred is a veteran and enlisted in the Army at age 18.

If you ever met Fred, you’d remember him. He was kind and true to his friends, and passionate about team roping and living the cowboy way.  Fred loved horses and could spot a good one.  He loved telling a good story and embellishing it with a twinkle in his eye. He spoke fluent Spanish and Chinese, sometimes in the same sentence.   He had the ability to make the most somber person laugh.  He and his wife Molly raised a small herd of cows in the Wenas.  Fred and Molly enjoyed many years of rodeo together.  He retired from FedEx Freight in 2016 after 28 years. He and Molly enjoyed spending their winters in Wickenburg, AZ where Fred was able to live his dream - team roping with his buddies every day.

Fred was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather.  He will be especially missed by his brother, Bill, who thought of Fred as his hero. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Molly Jones, and his five children, Amanda (Mike) Marriott, Shane (Kristen) Jones, Alisha “Weezy” (Jason) Roberts, Kyle Jones, Misti (Zach) Parsley and 14 grandchildren, Trey, Jacob and Marcus; Will, Lillean, Easton and Ashlyn; Bella, Melina, Boaz, Rizzie, Jachin, and KyKy; and Georgia Mae; 6 siblings, Diane, Bill (Vickie), Steve (Carla), Brad (Janell), Linda, and Sue (Rick).  He is preceded in death by his mom and dad.

The loss of Fred is felt not only by family and friends in the Northwest but throughout the team roping world as evidenced by his many, many friends.

A graveside service was held at the Wenas Cemetary on August 2. Immediately following was a celebration of life at Fred and Molly’s. There will be a memorial in Wickenburg, Arizona, this Fall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Fred L. Jones to the Northwest Chapter of the American Cowboy Team Roping Association (ACTRA) Crisis Fund (4710 William Ave, Winnemucca NV, 89445) or in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936) who is caring for the family.
