Manuel Fialho entered into rest Dec. 13, 2012, at the age of 87.
Manuel was born in Stevinson, Calif., and resided the last 40 years in Turlock.
He had the heart of a cowboy way – horses, cattle and rodeo. He first competed in 1948 in La Grange, Calif., at the first rodeo held there. He continued competing and working in the arena as pickup man and generally involved in production with Andy Amsbaugh. They put on many rodeos throughout California, and were later known as the California Cowboys Association, of which he was a charter member.
He was devoted to family, and they shared his love of the western way – rodeo was basically a family affair.
Manuel retired from Northern California Teamsters in 1986 and later worked at what he loved most, which was ranching. He was well-known for his horsemanship and working cowdogs. He had many friends, as he never met a stranger.
He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, and daughters Barbara Cotta of Hilmar, Calif., Debbie Gonsalves of Modesto, and step-daughter Carolyn Thomas of Gustine; four grandsons and four great grandchildren. He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends.
