The Wynnewood, Okla., cowboy, representing the Prairie Circuit, was the only one to clock a time at 12.6 seconds in the four-man, sudden-death finals to capture the win Sunday at the Goshen County Pavilion. “Man, this is awesome,” said Good, 33. “I had a baby boy (Sonny) two months ago and he has been a life changer for me. My mind is in a different place. I’m a little more at ease and this (win) is great. This is the biggest win of my career.” Sonny, who turned two months old on Sunday, is Good and his wife Darcy’s first child. Good, who qualified for the National Finals Steer Roping in 2020 and 2023, was the second-to-last cowboy in the finals and watched as Scott Snedecor, the reigning NCFSR champion and four-time PRCA World Champion, and J. Tom Fisher, the 2022 PRCA World Champion, registered no times in front of him. That set the stage for Cole Patterson, the reigning PRCA World Champion Steer Roper, and two-time NCFSR champion in 2021 and 2022, to knock Good off the top of the leaderboard, but it didn’t happen. Patterson, like Snedecor and Fisher, registered a no time when his steer got up, securing the victory for Good. “You can’t ever count Cole out, but I did know the steer that he had was pretty tough, and it wasn’t really great on the ground,” Good said. “I thought if I can just miss a little bit right here with (Snedecor and Fisher) going out, second is great but with Cole having that steer I thought I had a pretty good chance and it worked out.” Good put himself in position for the win on Day 1 Saturday, clocking 59.2 seconds on four head to lead the average. Good began Sunday by recording a 22.5-second run to stay fivefor-five on catches. He recorded a no time in Round 6, but it didn’t cost him as he finished third in the average at 81.7 seconds on five head. That average time qualified him for the eight-man semifinals. The semifinal field consisted of Snedecor (90.0 seconds on six), Ora Taton (95.7 on six), Good, Tom Sorey (86.7 on five), Patterson (51.2 on four), J. Tom Fisher (52.3 on four), Roger Nonella (54.5 on four), and Chet Herren (55.4 on four). As the average winner Snedecor earned a $5,823 payday. There was a $2,500 bonus added for the average winner from Douglas (Wyo.) Tire Center – which was included in the amount and counts in the PRCA | RAM World Standings. Good earned $1,662 for his average finish. Good, who was 32nd in the world standings with $7,168 prior to the NCFSR, will move up after he left Torrington with $7,616 in earnings. “This will absolutely help me,” Good said. “I have come up here other years in 2018 and 2023 and I was hoping to get ahead (and earn) some money and that didn’t happen so this is great. My plan is to get back to the NFSR. We are going full throttle as long as we can. This boost dang sure helps and will allow me to make some different choices as to where I’m going to go and how I’m going to get there.” Patterson captured the semifinal round win with a 10.1-second time, and he was joined in the four-man, suddendeath finals by Good (12.0 seconds); Fisher (13.2 seconds); and Snedecor (14.4 seconds). “When I realized I made it back (to the semis) you just kind of have to hit the barrier a little harder now that we were on one-headers,” Good said. “I tried to stay off it (the barrier) all week because I knew I had the run in my horse. You have to hit it with these guys because these guys are really good.” Good praised his horse Frog, 17. “He felt good, and he did everything I told him to do,” Good said. “His drag is fast and he’s stopping on a dime.” Snedecor’s horse, Goose, 14, was selected as Top Horse of the NCFSR for the second year in a row. Snedecor’s horse Possum was the NCFSR’s Top Horse in 2020. The Prairie Circuit won the team title with $18,140, followed by Texas at $13,624.
