LAUGHLIN, NV — The 14th Annual Lucky 777 took place Dec. 6-8, 2013 at the Mohave Crossing Equestrian Center in Laughlin Nev. The event went off without a hitch, as it had for the 13 years that went before. The event got started with the #13 Handicap on Friday night. The average was won Ty Natalie Johnson and Jason Duby. Johnson also teamed up with Dale Benevides to win the fast time overall. Along with winning a significant amount of money in this warm up event, Ty Natalie celebrated her birthday.
Sat. Dec.7th Pace Freed and Kal Jepson took the average with a time of 28 seconds and collected $27,390. Along with the money they also took home the Skyline Silversmith saddles. Second in the average with a time of 29.08 seconds went to Caleb Twisselman and Jeffrey Larson collecting $18,260 and a pair of Gist buckles. Later that afternoon the Jim Hamilton Memorial #10 Century Roping was held. Before the roping Reed Flake, the roping announcer, took a few minutes to remember Jim Hamilton. Jim was a fixture around team ropers and team roping for decades. Terrell Shelly and Scott Seiler won the average and received $8,000. Ellen Hamilton, Jim’s wife, was on hand to present the Gist buckles to the winners,.
Sun., Dec. 8th Woody Rich-ins and Rex Nichols took the average of the #10 and were rewarded with $15,200 and the Skyline Silversmith saddles. Second in the average went to Lynn Jerrell and Brett Taylor they pocketed $11,400 and the Gist buckles.
The Mohave Crossing Equestrian Center continues to be an excellent venue. The AVI Resort and Casino offers very affordable rooms for participants and staff. There was a good heard of cattle supplied by Reed Flake. Along with supplying the cattle Reed does an outstanding job announcing the event. The Lucky 777 has had the privilege of having Phillip Murrah do the flagging. Phillip is known for outstanding officiating.
The 15th annual event has been scheduled for the same weekend next year. Hope to see you there.
