‘Best of the Best’ Team Roping & Tie-Down Roping
Nine years after the inaugural event, Scott and Jo Repp continue to host the biggest open roping in the Northwest. The day prior to the Ellensburg, Wash. PRCA Rodeo, the best of the best flocked to the WestStar Arena. 86 teams entered and took a swing at the lucrative $75,000 in cash and awards.
This year, Clay Tryan and Patrick Smith roped their five head in 34.6 seconds to narrowly edge out Kaleb Driggers and Jade Corkill (34.71 on five), splitting $20,000 and taking home Colt Revolvers and as assortment of other prizes.
In addition to an open team roping, WestStar Ranch hosts an open tie-down roping which was won by Bradley Bynum, roping three calves in 30.4 seconds. He won $5,000 for his effort.
The warm-up roping for the open events was a ProAm team roping, which saw 38 teams entered. For the pros, a unique prize was on the line: a trip to Maui courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines and Piiholo Ranch in which the top pro in each division received two airline tickets, lodging at the Piiholo guest house, a zip line excursion and roping at the ranch.
Winners were am heeler, Bambi Robb, partnered with Colby Lovell and header, Don Sherman, partnered with Clay O’Brien Cooper. The ams each received saddles.
