At every roping there are those ropers who rise to the top like cream in an old milk jar. You know before the roping even starts that certain teams will be in the short go. They are always there.
You know the ones. They always ride good horses, they don’t get in a hurry, and they rope every steer in about the same place in the arena. The header handles steers smoothly and the heeler rides around the corner and ropes two feet, like it’s no big deal. You’ve heard the comments like, “They make it look so easy don’t they?” “They just catch all their cattle” or “They are putting on a clinic out there.”
Consistency is the word that best describes them. Consistency is defined as “A living model of patience, determination, and strength – regardless of shifty, rootless times. The blasts of ridicule and criticism may punch it in the face – but consistency stands and takes it silently as a bronze statue takes the tempest.”
Consistent ropers don’t worry about comments like “They are not very fast” or “They are very predictable.” They just do their job, and when high teams are called they are high call or near the top. They don’t get nervous or uptight. They go make another smooth run and get a check. I’ve also noticed that they have very little trouble getting partners for the next roping.
Talk about consistency in a partner! Hebrews 13:8 says “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today yes, and forever.” When you need Him, He is there. He is never in a lousy mood, nor will He ask you to call back during office hours. He is available right now, today, tomorrow and always. He remains the same, regardless. Do you ever feel like you are always being let down? How about a partner that is always consistent? Partner up! Rise to the top!
