Dean Webber, 6/5/1935 – 5/29/2018
WOODLAND HILLS, CA – His family lost their hero when Dean Webber passed away at his home in Woodland Hills on May 29.
Dean was raised on a ranch in Sacramento, but focused on a career in the entertainment industry that began with a disc jockey job while in the Army in Oklahoma City. Dean’s quick wit and rich voice led to more radio jobs in San Jose, San Bernardino and San Francisco. Later Dean was one of several KMEN disc jockeys inducted into a Crusin Hall of Fame for their work at radio station 129 AM.
Off the air, Dean appeared in Dirty Harry, Bullitt, Eye Spy, over 100 television commercials, and he was a race track announcer at Sears Point, Laguna Seca and the former Ontario Motor Speedway. Dean became a familiar face to Los Angeles residents during his time as a news anchor at KCOP Channel 13. His television and film work also included roles in Jagged Edge, Rhinestone, One Life To Live, The Judge, The Frances Gary Powers Story, Saved By The Bell and America’s Funniest People. Dean was the voice of General Motors for years, and he appeared in commercials for AT&T, Miller Beer, SinuTab, Jack In The Box and many others.
Sometime in the 1970s, Dean picked up a rope again and he never looked back. If you can tell a true cowboy by the horses that he rode, Dean was one of the best. His team roping legacy includes friends and fast runs from Camarillo to Oklahoma City, and some of the highlights include qualifying for the Finals with his son Chad, and winning in the Ben Johnson Pro/Celebrity Rodeo on his palomino, Reno. Dean retired after a lengthy career as a booth announcer at KABC Television and roped as long as he was able. He loved his family and friends, he loved his country, and he loved his truck.
