SALINAS, CALIF. – The American Computer Barrel Racing Association (ACBRA) held their finals July 31 through August 2 at the Salinas Sports Complex. Over 400 entries and total paid out for the weekend was $131,690. In addition, $50,000 in awards were given out, including 14 saddles. The Finals started off with a Warm-Up race Friday night with over 250 entries. The first go round of the Finals started Saturday morning with the U1000 category, followed by the U3500, U7500, Open and Junior category (categories are based on lifetime earnings on the horse, with the exception of the junior category). The second go round was run on Sunday in reverse order in all categories. Each category had $6,000 added money and paid out in each go and average in a straight pay format and saddles were awarded to the average winners. Also all times for each go round were carried over to a 4D sidepot, which had $10,000 added for Saturday, $10,000 added for Sunday and $10,000 added to the average as well. Saddles were awarded to the average winners of each division. Total added money for the weekend was over $60,000.
ACBRA is a non-profit barrel racing association, run by volunteer barrel racers. All proceeds made go back to the members in the form of added money and awards. Races are run primarily in California and some in Nevada. For more info on the association visit www.acbra.net.
