‘Hugh Heifer’ Is High Selling Horse At Hershberger Sale
QUEEN CREEK, ARIZ. — Hershberger Performance Sale Company, Jason and Nikki Hershberger, held their seventh annual performance horse sale February 18 in Queen Creek, Ariz., at the Horseshoe Park and Equestrian Center. Horses were previewed on Friday in a jackpot team roping. The jackpot was won by Joe Burk Higgins riding #71, Equizan, and Les Oswald riding hip #93, Wrong Way Joann. It was a tough roping and fun to watch!
Horses were previewed again on Saturday morning. Horses were demonstrated in the events of: roping, cutting, cow horse, reining, and barrels. The sale began at 1 p.m. A professional staff included auctioneer Joel White; announcers John Johnson and Darren Moore; and bid spotters included Stacy Lee, Mitch Armitage and Cas Salley, and the office was managed by Sara Vaessen Pedigrees. CSR Equine mobile clinic was available for pre-purchase exams.
The high-selling horse, DMAC Hugh Heifer, was consigned by agent Jason Hershberger for Tami Sipp. Hugh Heifer is a six-year-old red roan gelding – an awesome head, heel, and cowhorse. He sold for $35,500 to Wendy Wilson from British Columbia, Canada.
Other top-10 selling horses were consigned by Cody Wensing, Rick Chayer, Joe Day, Jed Jacobs, Brad Lund, Ty Talsma, Chad Turner, 4 Ropin Ranch, Les Oswald, and Brad Barkemeyer. The top 10 horses averaged $20,850. Rick Chayer had five horses in the top 10!
Jason is always excited to see good horses from the sale go on to be successful with their new owners. He was glad to see the quality of horses that were brought by consignors from Arizona, California, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Texas, Utah and Montana. The overall average sale price on the horses sold was $7,781. Thanks to the consignors who brought these quality horses.
This year’s lucky buyer was Beverly Howe. She took home the DHS trophy saddle from the raffle drawing at the end of the sale. We were excited to see Will and Beverly Howe take home some great geldings.
Hershberger’s next sale will be the Summer Spectacular Performance Horse Sale, June 23 in Ogden, Utah, at the Golden Spike Event Center. It will be the same format as this sale in Arizona.
Good food, beautiful Arizona weather on Friday, shopping, and great horses to watch and bid on made this year’s performance horse sale a success. Hershberger Performance Horses would like to thank all who attended, and are grateful to all the buyers who trust in the quality brought to the Hershberger Performance Horse Sale.
WR Black Wichita, presented by Gavin Hershberger, sold for $10,700 to Blade Young.
Joes Lucky TJ, sold by Rick Chayer for $22,000 to Brandon Johnson of Nebraska.
