All-Girl Roping Added To Jeannie Witmer Memorial
The 4th Annual Jeannie Witmer Memorial Roping took place September 13 the during the Santa Cruz County Fair. Nice weather greeted family, friends and ropers who came out to participate and watch the evening events. Jeannie’s daughter Mikayla opened the evening with a ride into the arena in her mother’s honor to the song, “Like my Mother Does.”
The Jeannie Witmer Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Lauren Bellone. Lauren is studying Animal Science at Cal Poly – congratulations, Lauren.
The roping was produced by Cinch Up Productions. Thank you to Tony Agredano of Cinch Up Productions and his crew for providing the great cattle, timer, and flagger. Jeannie’s kids from the Corralitos 4-H horse project had men’s and women’s hats made for the Memorial Roping, with all proceeds going to the scholarship.
New this year was the All Girl roping. It was great to see all of the ladies roping; it would have made Jeannie very happy. The first roping of the night was the All Girl, with the winners being awarded custom Gist buckles. The second roping was the #8 with the winners being awarded breast collars from Custom Tack. The last roping of the night was the #6 with the winners being awarded bronc halters from Custom Tack. Custom Gist buckles were awarded to the high point #3.5/under and #4/over ropers.
The family would like to thank the friends, ropers, the Fair Board, Heritage Foundation, Agri-Culture, Corralitos 4-H horse project and Cinch Up Productions for a very memorable event. A special thanks to all the wonderful sponsors, as they make the roping and scholarship possible.
