Anderson & Mello Win Oakdale

The CTRA committee worked hard this year to come up with a concept that the ropers would like and support at the world famous Oakdale 10 Steer. This year the 10 steer was divided into two five steers, paying three rounds in each and then an overall 10 steer average. The eventual winners were Brian Anderson and Frank Mello. They each pocketed $1,900 and also took home beautiful Coats saddles.
The Open Roping was won by Daniel Green and Kyle Lockett, each winning $1,200. Century winners were Cody and Sonny Cowden. The Russ Santos Memorial was the biggest draw of the weekend, with 202 teams entering the four steer average. Gary Nanini and Matt Costa persevered and took home the cash and the Coats saddles. The Joanie Gatz Memorial made a format change. Past ropings had given the girls two full rounds and three loops. This year the roping was progressive after one with two loops. This format seemed to favor the eventual winners, Donna Mahoney and Wendy Frazier, as the payoff was $1,690 each and Coats saddles.
