LOS MOLINOS, CALIF. – They say Ol’ Brew has gone crazy. After 50 years here at Brewer’s Arena in Los Molinos, it’s no wonder. On Saturday, March 22, he had the bright idea of rolling the clock back to 1964: $3 practice and a 50-cent draw pot; $5 total including lunch, hot dogs, beans and Mom’s potato salad, which we grew up on in the 60’s.
Seventy-five practice ropers lined the arena and 135 teams in the draw-pot, with Terry Hodder and Drew Dunning winning in 23.5 on 3 head receiving $50 gift certificates. After a three-way tie rope off, Luke Andrews won the saddle. What a great day.
Our 50th anniversary roping was held on Sunday, March 23, with 75 degree weather, just like the day before. Madness prevailed, and I’m not talking March Madness basketball. Madd McCarly won the saddle for high money winner with $520, with her dad close behind and $510 in the Saddle Series Finale. McKenzee Chambers received a pair of custom made spurs made by Stew Lowry for high money #2 & under roper. It was awesome, baby. Thanks to everyone for roping at our 50th Anniversary weekend roping. Sponsors were Reynolds Ranch, The Green Barn, Roberson Embroidery and Stew Lowry from Red Bluff, Calif.; Mill Creek Cafe, Jack’s Restaurant, L.M. Hardware, J.B. Construction, Crosslands and Brewer’s Arena from Los Molinos and Vina, Calif. Lassen Steak House. A big thank you to the girls who ran the snack bar and the chute help workers.
