Transitions and Traditions
Publisher’s Note
By Dee Yates
Welcome to the October and November issue. There is a lot in these pages, and a couple of things on my heart, so let me talk to you for a minute.
First, some news about our own Lacey Parsons. She has been offered a wonderful new job, and she will be transitioning into it over the next few weeks. Lacey has been part of Ropers Sports News since Bob retired, and I will tell you plainly that I could not have made that transition without her. So many of you have worked with her, trusted her, and built real friendships with her over the years, and I know she has loved every one of you.
I will be taking on her clients’ communications as she steps into her next chapter, and hope everyone can find patience with me as that takes place. If you are one of Lacey’s producers or advertisers, I will be reaching out. She is not disappearing on us either. She will still drop in from time to time when her schedule allows. We are beyond happy for her; we love the Parsons family, and we wish them nothing but the best. Thank you, Lacey, for everything you have poured into this magazine. You helped carry us from Bob’s era into ours, and that is not a small thing.
As for our cover, it is a special one. Glenn Teixeira was one of my favorite interviews to date. He is warm, heartfelt, and is exactly what rodeo and team roping should always be about. Good, wholesome, caring family, with deep roots. I can never say enough about roots and family in California, and Glenn is all of those things at once. Spend a few minutes with his story and I think you will feel the same way I did walking away from that conversation.
Looking ahead, October and November are stacked. The ACTRA National Finals in Reno are almost here, and we could not be more excited. We hope to see every one of you there. We will also be at the National Rodeo Hall of Fame induction weekend and the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame induction luncheon, celebrating a class that has a whole lot of California in it this year.
To all of our new readers who have subscribed, thank you. It means the world. And to our advertisers, new and longtime, a quick reminder: every piece of content we produce is carefully handled and managed by me personally. Everything we create is embedded with AI searchability and metadata, so it is never “only print.” Print is the first asset we build, not the last. Your story keeps working long after the issue mails. We care deeply about you, about your product and about your service, and if you have never worked with us, I would love the opportunity to change that.
We are looking for account executives. If being part of Ropers Sports News sounds like something you would want to do, reach out to me directly at deeyates@roperssportsnews.com. I would love to talk.
Thank you for being here, and for being part of this family.
With gratitude, Dee Yates
