CORNING, CALIF. – Run2Win Barrel Racing Association scored a home run with their New Year’s Eve and Day barrel racing events at the Rolling Hills Casino. Producers Jack and Sharra Deniz went all out for this event at the new equestrian event center in Corning, Calif. With close to 1,000 entries over the two days, the barrel racers rocked in the new year with big cash payouts and buckles to each of the average winners.
Mandy Staley, manager of the newly opened Rolling Hills Casino Equestrian Center, aboard her fantastic black gelding, Stan (Hopesalligot, a 10-yr-old by Ninetynine Goldmine and out of Delightful Bo), started the event off right by winning the New Year’s Eve race. She then came back the next day and placed third in the 1D and won the average.
When asked about her winning runs, Mandy said “Stan is my ‘diamond in the rough,’ I simply lucked into him! I bought him late last summer. A good friend of mine, Billy Ward who trains and sells a lot of rope/ranch horses, called me and said ‘You need this horse.’ At the time, I wasn’t really looking for a horse. He belonged to a girl from Oregon who competes in high school rodeos and they did not click. I brought him home to help sell him. From the first time I stepped on him, it just worked! Every run he gets faster and faster and more consistent. He is really easy for me to ride, it’s just how fast can we be? I am looking forward to what 2014 has in store for us!”
Jandee Smart on BCR Stella Bella won the New Year’s Day race as well a running the fastest time of the weekend. 2D average winners was Lea Orsburn, 3D was Michell Woolbert and the 4D, Kathy Smith.
