Brown & Cooper Win Open At Northwest Regionals

The Northwest Regional Finals in Winnemucca, Nev., were held Aug. 24-26. The team roping action took place at the Winnemucca Convention Center and welcomed ropers from all over the Northwest and surrounding area.
The first roping of the weekend was the Open Division. Luke Brown from Morgan Mill, Texas and Clay O’Brien Cooper from Gardnerville, Nev., were high team back. They caught their final steer in 6.54 seconds, bringing their four steer total to 25.42 seconds. The duo won the average and took home $4,000, 20 points for the Priefert US Open Tour and trophy Gist spurs. Second place went to Chad Masters and Jade Corkill and third place was Masters and Cooper. Clay O Berry and Cole Sherwood won the incentive average.
In the #15 Division the team of Steen Schumacher from Payson, Ariz., and Paul Brashears from Casa Grande, Ariz., came from the fourth call back position to win first place in the average. They were 29.25 seconds on four steers and won $1,038, trophy Gist spurs and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the average was Steve Sherwood and Britt Newman and third place was Shane Bohach and Bill Finks. Sherwood and Newman also won the incentive average.
Schumacher came back in the #15 Shoot Out and teamed up with Levi Piquet from Harrisville, Utah to win first place in the average. The team came from the second call back position and won $4,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Bailey and Jade Corkill and third place in the average was Jared Udy and Nels Bowen.
Chad Crume from Grants Pass, Ore., and Thad Akins from Harrisburg, Ore., teamed up to win first place in the average of the #13 Preliminary. They were 31.75 seconds on four steers and won $2,090, trophy Gist spurs and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the roping was Trevor Alves from Klamath Falls, Ore., and Adam Fitze from Hydesville, Calif. Third place went to Katie Joe McFarlane and Marlow Eldridge and Shane Bohach and Austin Christensen won the incentive average.
Case Hirdes from Turlock, Calif., and Clint Felton from Fallon, Nev., teamed up to win first place in the #13 Shoot Out. They were 31.98 seconds on four steers and won $8,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Chris Freed and Cody Burnside and third place went to Eric Duffin and Steve Sherwood.
In the #12 Preliminary, Walt and Grant Stein from Cottonwood, Calif., were high team back. After a run of 7.77 seconds in the short round they finished in the number one position of the average with a time of 32.80 seconds on four steers. They won $2,300, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the roping was Hyland Wilkinson and Anival Guerrero and third went to Kailey and Paul Freed. Cache and Cody Burnside won the incentive average.
In the #12 Shoot Out Kailey Freed from Morgan, Utah teamed up with Clint Felton from Fallon, Nev., to win first place in the average. They were 34.04 seconds on four steers and won $8,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Katie Jo McFarlane and Jim Jones and third place went to Berry Young and Dan Scarbrough.
The win of the #12 Gold Plus Division went to the team of Steve Ceresola from Fernley, Nev., and TeeJay Brown from Payette, Idaho. They were fourth callback to the short round and finished the roping with a time of 36.01 seconds on four steers. The win gave them $9,530, trophy Gist buckles, Resistol Hats, Tony Lama boots, Cinch jeans and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the average was the team of Deston Dishion and Kelsey Bengoa with a time of 36.94 seconds on four steers. Third place in the average was Kailey Freed and Clint Felton. Nora Lee and Felton finished fourth. Bob Scott and Harry Larson won the incentive average.
David Walter from Ferndale, Calif., and Adam Fitze from Hydesville, Calif., teamed up to win first place in the #11 Preliminary. They roped four steers in 34.32 seconds and earned $3,460, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place went to Eric Duffin from Pocatello, Idaho and Fitze. Third place was Jimi Jones and Trevor Alves. Clell Hasenbank and Glenn Grenke won the incentive average.
Cole Sherwood from San Tan Valley, Ariz., and Jeff Flenniken from Caldwell, Idaho were the winners of the #11 Shoot Out. They teamed up to rope four steers in 33.54 seconds and won $8,394, trophy Martin saddles and $6000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the average was Cailee Crume and Ramzi Hughes with a time of 34.27 seconds. They won $5,596 and $6000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Third place in the average was Kort Albertson and John Koyle.
The Oregon team of David Hartness and Jeff Bowers were the winners of the #10 Preliminary. They were high team back and after a run of 10.77 seconds in the short round, they finished the roping with a time of 37.44 seconds on four steers. The team won $3,400, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the roping was Joel Maxwell and Dustin Bahem. Breck Ward and Dustin Navarro won third place in the average. Rick Lawrence and Wyatt Ferreira won the incentive average.
Bailey Corkill was the header to beat in the #10 Shoot Out. She and partner Wyatt Ferreira were seventh call back to the short round and finished the roping with a time of 37.83 seconds on four steers. They won $8,346, trophy Martin saddles, and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Corkill and heeler Jeff Flenniken. Third place in the average was Robbin Rowley and Nick Wilkinson.
Claud Smith from Pendleton, Oregon and Harry Larson from Hermiston, Ore., were the winners of the #9 Preliminary. They came from second callback position in the short round and won the roping with a time of 40.68 seconds on four steers. They won $2,746, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the average was Rick Lawrence and Wyatt Ferreira and third place in the roping went to Wylee Strong and Russ Maughan. Strong and Maughan also won the incentive average.
In the #9 Shoot Out Janie Freed and Jeff Flenniken were high team back and made a run of 7.09 in the short round to finish the roping in first place in the average with a time of 31.60 seconds on four steers. They won $8,000, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place in the roping was Shawn Cox from Middleton with a time of 39.58 seconds on four steers. The team won $4,734 and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. The third place team was Shaun Wilkinson and Tim Ekstrom.
In the #8 Pick/Draw the win of the roping went to Mark Broughton from Wellsville, Utah and Breck Ward from Richfield, Idaho. They were 29.40 seconds on three steers and won $1,198, trophy Martin saddles and $6,000 in USTRC Flex Earnings. Second place was Debbie Maxwell from Council, Idaho and Daniel Shehady from Wellington, Nev. Dillon Bahem and Luther Darrough from Idaho and Nev., won third place.
As the curtain fell on the Northwest Regional Finals, Bailey Corkill was crowned the Cruel Girl Champion of the roping and Clint Felton from Fallon, Nev., was the high point Gold Plus roper of the weekend.
