Often at a roping you will hear the talk of new. “I just got a new truck” or “we just got a new trailer” or the best of all, “I just got a new horse! He or she is the real deal and we anticipate that our roping will get better and the chance of winning new will increase.”
“New” is exciting and is a part of roping that really keeps us going. Winning a new buckle and some money is always rewarding. The promise of winning a new saddle or even a truck will take us over the top emotionally. Our adrenaline, desire and motivation will soar at the thought of the new items we might obtain and for awhile it drives us even harder.
Unfortunately after awhile the new tends to wear off and the excitement fades into the next conquest. The truck isn’t quite as shiny and loses its new smell. The horse isn’t working quite as well as he was because of something we have done. The buckles end up in a drawer and as the saddles begin to show wear we sell them to a friend. However it’s that next new win that keeps us coming back for more.
A roper and his or her horse going against the odds and ending up a winner enhances our self-esteem, creates excitement and is just plain fun. Lest we feel like we are on an unending roller coaster ride, may I remind you of a “new” that is constant.
“If anyone is in Christ he is a new creature, old things have passed away and all things become new.” II Cor 5:17. Always new! Experiencing a “new” life on an everyday basis is an inward reality. God’s desire is for us to walk in and enjoy the newness of His presence every day of our lives. So what’s new with you? Rope great, have fun and try something “new.” Thank you for your comments and prayer requests, kipley3385@sbcglobal.net
