C-N California Futurity Payout Over $27,000
By Charleen Ornellas
Special To Ropers Sports News
The second annual C-N California Futurity was held in Lemoore, Calif. on Dec. 9-11, 2011.
This year’s Futurity proved to be a great success with $5,800 added cash to the Futurity thanks to a great bunch of stallion owners! A Stallion Service Auction held in the Fall of 2011 raised 100% profit to the added money for this Futurity. With 38 entries, the Futurity paid two goes and an average paying $10,000 in cash and over $7,000 in awards. The Futurity paid five places in each go as well as the average and gave awards down to 10th place.
Bailey Nahrgang also donated several cases of wine to go to anyone who knocked over a barrel. So I don’t believe anyone went home empty handed. Each Futurity contestant also received a gift bag donated by Brian Walker, Charleen Jespersen, JoAnn Bawks, Shannon Shade, Wayfire Media, Rodeo Log.com, Ropers Sports News, and C-N Quarter Horses, which included Western Christmas ornaments, RodeoLog.com books, Old School horse rub, and horse treats. Raffle items such as Cowgirl Tuff clothing giveaway, Central Coast Performance Horses donated a noseband, and free subscription random give away by Ropers Sports News. Banners and programs donated by Graphic Designs by Kellie and rominetimber.com.
All sponsors, supporters and stallions of the C-N Futurity and their website links can be found at www.cbarnquarterhorses.com. Please take a moment to stop by the sites and say thank you for supporting this event in California. And a very special thank you to everyone who jumped in to help make this event happen. Barrel setters, gate operators, office crew of Kellie Romine, Jaime Hinton, Jennifer Dyer, Paige Mason, Janel Flook, Shannon Shade, Katie Dugo, Shelly Holman, Kelly Lopez, Kylie Dewitt, Christy Bawks, Debbie Greidanus, Lacie Lafferty, Ryan Smith, Deanise Heir, Lita Scott, and anyone else who pitched in and helped out. Thank you very much from all of us at C-N! This event could not be what it is without each and every one of you!
Photographer Wayne Coe, www.photoreflect.com, what a trooper he is. Wayne spent the whole weekend taking thousands of pictures of everyone candid and runs shots in all the different classes. We appreciate Wayne taking the time to come out and shoot this race.
The C-N California 2012 Futurity Champion and High Money winner of the weekend June Rust took home not only the championship buckle donated by Kathy’s Show Equipment but also $1683 on her five-year -old Futurity filly, Cowgirls Gone Wild, sired by TR Dasher. June got this filly straight off the track just a year ago in Oklahoma. She spent the past year retraining and patterning Cowgirl. And what an amazing job she did. She came here one year later and put together two beautiful consistent runs. June and Cowgirl placed third in the first go-round with an 18.057 winning $391. The pair picked up the pace the second go-round and took the win with a 17.738 winning $646. The combined time of 35.795 gave June and Cowgirl the average win, championship gold Buckle title and another $646!
A $100 cash bonus was given to the fastest Futurity horse of the weekend sired by one of the stallions that were donated from the stallion auction. Curly Sue Fame sired by Stir N Up The Fame. Homegrown, raised, and competed on by Cathy Cag-liari won the bonus cash prize running an 18.182. The pair also took home an additional $744 in Futurity winnings. Cathy has been a supporter of the C-N Futurity from the beginning.
The 2D Futurity gold buckle championship title went to Sheena Robbins and Butter sired by Tejons Barcelena. Butter is owned by Sheena’s mom Brenda and is ridden at home by her brother Cody. Sheena has recently gotten her hands on this talented guy to see what he can do in the barrel pen. Seems Sheena just might have another winner on her hands to run down that alley on. Sheena and Butter took home a total of $691, not bad for a young colt just getting started.
