This year’s event was another successful roping. It all got started on Friday night with the #13 Handicapped, three steer warm up roping. The event was $75 per roper. Of the 194 teams entered, first place in the average went to the team of Chance Kiehne and Clayton Van Aken with a time of 22.94, winning $4,350. Second went to Caleb Twisselman and Lance Harvey with a time of 22.98, and they won $2,330.
On Saturday morning the first of the premiere events began with the #15. Every team received three full rounds with the top 20 going to the fast round. First in the average was Calvin Brevik and Wade Masters, with a time of 29.87, splitting $22,000 and each received a Skyline Silversmith saddle, along with $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Second went to Justin Wood and Andy Holcomb with a time of 31.18, they shared $15,340, Gist buckles, and $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Third was Caleb Twisselman and Dillon Wingereid. This team $11,340 and a pair of spurs, and $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Fourth in the average went to Justin Wood and Cord Forzano, whose time on 4 was 31.38, the team made $8,000 and was awarded Professional’s Choice saddle pads, along with $6,000 in Flex Earnings.
Next came the Jim Hamilton Memorial Century Roping, which was a #10. As was the case in the first year of the Memorial, Mrs. Ellen Anderson was on hand to present the winners with their awards. The fees were $500 per team and the competition was intense. First in the average went to Reed Flake and Earl Higgins, with a time of 38.94, they split $10,000 and each was awarded a Gist buckle along with $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Second in the average went to Terrell Shelley and Scott Seiler, with a time of 40.44 and they shared $7,000, and spurs along with $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Third went to Brian A. Costa and Sonny Cowden, with a time of 41.74 and a payday of $5,000, Professional’s Choice saddle pads and $2,000 in Flex Earnings.
First up on Sunday morning was the Open All Girls three steer. This roping has been slow to catch on. To give the ladies a chance to win some money, no stock charge was taken and 100% of the entries were returned to the ladies along with the prize line. Average winners were Tammy White and Tammy Lewis, with a time of 26.91, they received $2,600 and a Gist buckle for their efforts. Second was the team of Kenna Armitage and Kera Washburn with a time of 28.95, they split $1,800, and each lady received a Professional’s Choice saddle pad. Third was Marcey Chaves and Tammy White, with a time of 32.09 and each received a Bonnie Beers cookbook.
The #11 followed the All Girls. The event went off without a hitch, with each team getting three full rounds, and the top 20 to the short round. First was Mike Grant and Jetty Harvey, with a time 35.74 seconds, and they had a payday of $17,400, along with Skyline Silversmith saddles, and collected $6,000 in Flex Earnings, Second was Bill Fancher and Kolt Campbell, with the time of 36.69, and they received $13,050, along with Gist buckles, and $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Third belonged to Bodi Dodds and Ryan Fowler with a time of 37.36 and they split $8,700 and each got a pair of spurs, along with $6,000 in Flex Earnings. Fourth was the team of Mary Ann Miller and John Miller, with a time of 39.35, and they took home $4,350 and Professional’s Choice saddle pads, along with $2,000 in Flex Earnings.
