Bar 7S Hosts 1,791 Teams In Quincy, CA

The Bar 7S Quincy Labor Day weekend roping was a huge success with 1,791 teams participating and roping for a total of almost $40,000. There were plenty of prizes up for grabs over the five days as we awarded three Scott Thomas trophy saddles, 23 Gist silver buckles, 42 rope gift certificates worth $25 each from Steer Gear, three Cactus breast collars, three Cactus bronc halters, six Cactus award saddle pads, and four Pro Equine award splint boots.
The five days of ACTRA Members Only Ropings kicked off on Thursday evening, September 1, with Cactus award saddle pads presented to the top four high point #2.5/under ropers and to the top two high point #3/over ropers. The saddle pad winners were Doug Kaba, Aaron Neer, J.T. Bradley, Walt Giacomini, Ty Morrill and Marv Barton.
On Sept. 2, a morning roping and an evening roping were held. A Scott Thomas trophy saddle was awarded at each to the first high point roper, a Cactus breast collar went to the second high point roper, and a Cactus award halter went to the third high point roper. The finals results in the morning, were: Chris Prior won the saddle, Marv Barton won the breast collar, and Shane Radelfinger won the halter. Doug Parker won the saddle in the evening roping, Jay Kellogg won the breast collar, and Anival Guerrero won the halter. Another saddle roping was held on Sept. 5, and that Scott Thomas saddle was won by high point roper Marv Barton. Doug Kaba won the breast collar, and Benjamin Tejeda won the halter.
On, Sept. 3 and 4, Gist buckles were awarded to the winner of each jackpot (though a person could only win one buckle for each day).
Steer Gear $25 rope gift certificates were awarded on Sept. 2 and 5 to the winners of each jackpot. Then on Sept. 3 and 4, Steer Gear $25 rope gift certificates were awarded to second in each jackpot.
Pro Equine donated the trophy splint boots that went to third in the #5.5 Pick on Sept. 3 to Brittany Moore and Ken Cook, and on Sept. 4 to Robert McGrew and Dave Tyndall.
The Future Champion roping is always a lot of fun and this year there were 22 enthusiastic participants. We want to thank Steer Gear for their assistance in sponsoring the future champions and the rope gift certificates. Buckle winners this year were Justin James Burgess (6 years/under), Brock Griffin ( 7-9 years), and Cora Mundell (10-12 years). All participants won hats or ropes.
This year’s bonus steer was named Mountain Rocket. If anyone had roped him in eight seconds or less, that team would have won $100. This year, the steer won. Although he was roped a few times, it was never close to eight seconds.
Edgar and Diane of We Cook For You kept everyone well fed with their breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections. They also have very popular snow cones and ice cream bars. We Cook For You will return for our Memorial Weekend roping in May 2012.
Thanks to J.R. and Lynn Cordova of Steer Gear for providing ropes, gifts, and other gear for the ropers.
Kip Holbrook delivered a great message on Sunday morning at Cowboy Church. The surroundings at Quincy are beautiful and many people appreciate the opportunity to worship there. Kip promises to come back in May 2012.
On Labor Day, Shannon Higuet sang the Star Spangled Banner for all of us. Thank you Shannon.
The staff at the Quincy Fairgrounds is always responsive and helpful. Thanks to Oren and John for all of their assistance before, during, and after the ropings. The timekeepers did their usual outstanding job keeping the ropings moving and organized. Thanks to Penni Utterback and Bonnie and James Miller.
The arena workers also did a great job in keeping all of the ropings flowing smoothly. Many thanks to Shane Anthony, Chris Chase, Tara Moore and Betty Estep.
I especially want to thank Amy Mundell and all of the grandkids for helping me with the stalls and camping. Amy was a great help, it was so much fun having all of the grandkids there.
Aaron and Megan Neer provided the water truck for the weekend and did an excellent job.
We want to let the ropers and their families know how much we appreciate their participation. Thank you so much for coming. We hope even more ropers will want to come in May 2012 for our Memorial Day roping at Quincy.
