L.C. Smith
L.C. Smith, Jr. passed away at his home in Prather, Calif. at the age of 83. L.C. was born February 7, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Okla. Upon finishing high school, he attended Pierce College where he took up calf roping and steer wrestling. On November 3, 1957 he married his true love, Vivian Anderson who was his partner in life for 63 years.
L.C. and Vivian had two beautiful daughters, Cindy and Sherry. They were also blessed with eight grandchildren: Clifford, Raymond, Ronnie, Eric, Josh, Joe Dee, Rachel and Jimmy. They also have seven great-grandchildren.
L.C. was a painting contractor in Sylmar, Calif. doing mainly commercial work before moving to Prather. Upon moving there, he was able to establish the Smith Ranch. There he continued to pursue his passion of training horses. L.C. was a PRCA Gold Card member as well as a Senior Pro Rodeo member.
He enjoyed team roping and was a fierce competitor. He always kept Vivian well mounted with a barrel horse that he would train for her. When his grandson entered high school and junior rodeos, L.C. provided him with solid mounts for calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. Before passing, L.C. gave his last cherished horse to his daughter Sherry Zacher to carry on his passion for rodeo and barrel racing.
L.C. lived a very full life! He will greatly missed by his family, friends and the rodeo community.
