Allen Sanders
Hearing of the passing of Allen Sanders on June 8, 2020 was certainly a shock to all who knew him. The 71-year old Roseville, Calif. team roper/rancher, was the patriarch of the very well known and loved Bar 7S team roping production company.
Allen’s dad, the late Al Sanders, operated a roping arena in Rio Linda, Calif. on Second Street. Bar 7S Arena ropings have been advertised in Ropers Sports News since the early 70’s. One such ad from the May 1975 issue had Wednesday and Sunday 50¢ jackpots listed and practice for $5. Ah, those were the good old days.
The Sanders family has produced ropings at California locations including Taylorsville, Quincy, Sheridan, Roseville, Rio Linda, Lincoln, plus many more. They were always staunch supporters of high school rodeo and in particular CHSRA D3. Benefit ropings, memorial ropings, just plain jackpots, Bar 7S ropings were always fun, family-oriented events.
Allen was an accomplished roper whether heading or heeling and was always willing to offer his advice and knowledge. He has helped many a roper further their career. A huge supporter of ACTRA, Allen would also be seen at the many WSTR ropings throughout the state of California.
The Ropers Sports News staff would like to extend their sincere condolences to the Sanders family and also the many enduring friends that he left behind.
With Allen’s passing, a part of team roping history in Northern California has come to a close.
