The Bar 7S Ranch held the 14th annual Quincy, Calif. Memorial Weekend Roping from May 24-27, 2013. This May we had the highest team count of any of the Quincy May ropings with over 1,500 teams. The weather was nearly perfect for the whole time even though we had some rain on Monday morning. It cleared up and the roping went on as planned. We all felt an earthquake which shook us up a little and got us ready for the weekend of roping.
There were a lot of awards to be won: three Cactus trophy saddles, 20 Gist buckles, three Gist future champion buckles, two Cactus saddle pads, three Cactus breast collars, three Cactus headstalls, 40 certificates valued at $20 each for ropes from Steer Gear, and five pair Cactus Gear splint boots.

It’s always fun to watch the future champion roping. All of the kids won ropes and three won buckles. The Gist buckle winners were: Justin Burgess (age 5 and under), Conner Finks (age 6 to 9) and Kelly Burgess (age 10 to 12). Rope winners were: Rio Segura, Landon Banks, Alex Evans, Jett Neer, Jack Thiel and Ava Evans.
Edgar and Diane of We Cook For You kept everyone well fed with their breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. They also have very popular ice cream bars. We Cook For You will return for our Labor Day Weekend Roping in September 2013.
Thanks to J.R. and Lynn Cordova of Steer Gear for providing ropes, gifts and other gear for the ropers. Also, we appreciate Lynn’s influence in getting Cactus Gear’s donation of trophy splint boots. We still have a pair or two for September. Thanks also to Cactus Gear for their donation.
Kip Holbrook delivered a great message on Sunday morning at Cowboy Church. The surrounds at Quincy are beautiful and many people appreciate the opportunity to worship there. Kip promises to come back in September 2013.
The staff at the Quincy Fairgrounds is always responsive and helpful. Thanks for all of their assistance before, during and after the ropings.
The timekeepers did their usual outstanding job keeping the ropings moving and organized. Thanks to Penni Utterback, along with Bonnie and James Miller.
The arena workers also did a great job in keeping all of the ropings flowing smoothly. Many thanks to Kyle, Steve, Jim McCrary and Betty Estep.
Aaron and Megan Neer provided the water truck for the weekend and did an excellent job. If you need a water truck call them at 775-771-5493.
We want to let the ropers and their families know how much we appreciate their participation. It looked like everyone had a great time. Thank you so much for coming.
