The Oakdale Cowboy Museum will be celebrating the 8th Annual National Day of the American Cowboy on Saturday, July 28, at the Oakdale Cowboy Museum, from 11am-2pm. Families are invited to stroll in the courtyard and visit a real cowboy camp, visit with some of our local cowboys and get autographs. We will have activities such as; learning to rope, designing your own brand and using leather tools to stamp out a leather designs. There will be a real cattle truck where kids can walk up a ramp and explore the inside of a trailer to see how cattle are loaded and transported. “Our goal is to share with the public the day in the life of a cowboy, while embracing our local western heritage says committee chairperson, Pat Taylor. This day recognizes our working ranching cowboys as well as our rodeo cowboys.” Awards will also be given to the winners of our National Day of the American Cowboy drawing contest.
The National Day of the American Cowboy campaign was founded by American Cowboy magazine in 2004 to preserve, protect and promote our cowboy and Western heritage and lobby for the passage of a national resolution designating the fourth Saturday of every July a permanent celebration on the national calendar honoring cowboys and cowgirls for their enduring contribution to the courageous, pioneering spirit of America.
