The sport of team roping took a dramatic turn at The American rodeo last month. With letting half of the $100,000 count towards the PRCA standings and ultimately the NFR, it put Ryan Motes and Coleman Proctor in a great position this year. One thing I learned to accept during my rodeo career was accepting the luck of the draw and how much of a factor it plays into whether or not you can be successful. There were times when Rich and I would show up, know the stock, draw the best in the herd, and it’s very enjoyable to know you just have to do your job to have a chance to win. Then when you draw the worst cow in the herd that’s a completely different story.

First I want to congratulate the new world champions, Clay Smith and Paul Eaves, for winning their first world title. Also, a big congratulations to all the champions of the World Series of Team Roping Finale. There was some life changing money won there this year, more than we’ve ever seen before. The #10 set a record by paying $376,000 to split.
