One thing I learned to accept during my rodeo career was accepting the luck of the draw and how much of a factor it plays into whether or not you can be successful. There were times when Rich and I would show up, know the stock, draw the best in the herd, and it’s very enjoyable to know you just have to do your job to have a chance to win. Then when you draw the worst cow in the herd that’s a completely different story.

One of the most important aspects when I am teaching is how to keep your horse working. The use of your legs and controlling your horse is an important part of that. Many times when we watch our videos in slow motion, the student’s legs are in the wrong place.

First I want to congratulate the new world champions, Clay Smith and Paul Eaves, for winning their first world title. Also, a big congratulations to all the champions of the World Series of Team Roping Finale. There was some life changing money won there this year, more than we’ve ever seen before. The #10 set a record by paying $376,000 to split.
