Keith Abshire

  Roy “Keith” Abshire was born on September 28, 1947. Born at home in Ringling, Oklahoma he was the youngest of seven boys born to Homer and Etta Abshire. The Abshire family moved to California in 1954 settling in the Chowchilla area. After graduating from Chowchilla High School in 1965 he worked with his brother Chris, were he learned the electrical trade. After he obtained his electrical license, he started Abshire Electric until he retired in 2005. Keith was an avid team roper, having won numerous saddles and buckles. He would fondly reminisce about competing in the Chowchilla Stampede in the “Old” outdoor arena. He later won the Stampede team roping in 2002. He would spend most days at a jackpot roping or hosting a jackpot at his roping arena in Madera, along with his two sons. In his later years Keith enjoyed watching and helping young team ropers and visiting with family and friends.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Etta Abshire and his brothers Robert, Tom, Stanley, Chris and Gary. He is survived by his son Bryon, his wife Melissa, their two children Katelyn and Colton; and son Aaron, his wife Brandi and their daughter Emilee, all of Chowchilla.
Keith will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Per Keith’s request there will be no services.
