SIERRAVILLE, CALIF. – It was yet another wonderful, fun-filled weekend for the 13th Annual Steve Maddalena Memorial Team Roping on the first weekend in August.
Despite county and statewide COVID restrictions, we were able to host and put on our annual event without a hitch. In fact, we saw one of the biggest turnouts in Steve Maddalena Memorial history!
The weather was perfect, the stands were full, the beer was cold and everyone seemed to have a really great time.
We had fully intended on having a big celebration on Saturday evening for our dear friend, Dick McWilliams, who turns 85 this month, but unfortunately, he had to leave early. If you see Dick around, wish him a happy birthday. One of my favorite memories is of him entering the Steve Maddalena roping one time and winning the buckle. I can’t think of a more deserving winner. He told me, “oldest roper riding the oldest horse here.” Good times!
Congratulations to all of our winners this year. High money roper of the weekend  was Noah Williams, winning an Outlaw Saddles saddle certificate and High Money Girl, Mattie Johns. Colby Scott Smith and Jack Curry won the Steve Maddalena Memorial #10 Handicap and Michael Dinkins and Noah Williams won the Elliott Dow Memorial.
Thank you to Mike Brewer for once again supplying the cattle. I would like to thank everyone who attended this year. I know there were other places you could be, but you chose Sierraville and for that I am so grateful. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible yet again…there are a lot of you and you know who you are. You all put in so much time and energy to make this roping run smoothly and I am so thankful. Thank you to Outlaw Saddles & Silver for the amazing prizes. Thank you to Lynn Cordova and Steer Gear for having your tack and rope trailer available and for hosting the Dummy Roping. Also thank you Mike Piland with Cactus Ropes for donating the prizes. The kids LOVED them. And thank you to the tribe of people who helped take care of one-year-old little Stevie so that mommy and daddy could rope. Love you all!
We are already looking forward to next year’s roping.
Results follow and roping payoffs are per man.
